TMJ/TMD Pain Relief Through Natural Care Chiropractic
Updated: Sep 10
The temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, is the joint that connects your jaw bone to your skull at the temporal bone. This joint is needed for basic, everyday functions like chewing and talking. When your TMJ muscle is injured or overused, temporomandibular disorder or TMD can occur. Left untreated, TMD can cause life lasting damage and chronic pain. Dr. Mark J. Freund and Dr. Nicole Gopaul of Natural Care Chiropractic, located in Lindenhurst, IL., are available to help.
Together, our staff works with you and a dental professional specialized in TMJ/TMD. Chiropractic treatment for TMJ/TMD focuses on realigning the position of the jaw, working to correct the disorder by adjusting your bite.
Dr. Freund or Dr. Gopaul use the Atlas Orthogonal Technique. This adjusts the atlas vertebra, the one located on the top of the spine. Its function is to support the head. If it is misaligned, the rest of the spine is too. The adjustment involves gentle pressure being applied to the atlas vertebra. Once the adjustment is complete, the rest of the spine and joints fall back into place. The tension and stress in the TMJ are relieved. Your jaw can begin to heal and eventually reach complete functionality.
