Atlas Orthogonal Techniques: Vertebrae Realignment

Updated: Dec 8, 2022

Do you feel like there is extra stress and pressure on your spine, but you’re unsure where it’s coming from? It’s possible that the “orthogonal” relationship of your head, neck, and spine is misaligned. We at Natural Care Chiropractic in Lindenhurst offer our patients a variety of chiropractic techniques and advanced technologies to better customize their treatment to their problem. One such technique Dr. Gopaul uses is the Atlas Orthogonal (AO) Technique.

A misalignment of the orthogonal relationship of the head, neck, and spine causes serious damage and pain. The weight of your head is shifted out of alignment, no longer centered over the spine. This, in turn, causes the vertebrae to also shift in order to compensate. Like a chain reaction, this misalignment affects your nerves, organs, mobility, and immune system. AO is a tried and true technique used by chiropractors to correct the misalignment of the head in relation to the neck and spine. It is a gentle technique that does not use great physical manipulation, but rather, minute adjustments of the atlas vertebrae.

After the AO adjustment, you can expect instantaneous relief of symptoms, as well as a degree of tiredness and muscle soreness. These are all positive signs that your body has reacted to the treatment and has begun repairing itself. Not all chiropractors are able to use the AO technique. Additional specialized training with a focus on spinal manipulation of the upper spine and neck is required. Chiropractors would also need training with the AO percussion instrument.

Do you think you could benefit from the AO technique? We are happy to address any concerns or answer any questions you have!
